Dare: Let's talk about 'phubbing'!

Writer: Mathilde BarbierMathilde Barbier

Despite the fact it has been in the dictionary since 2013, I only discovered it a couple of years ago. The Cambridge English dictionary defines it as: “the act of ignoring someone you are with and giving attention to your mobile phone instead.”

📱📱 phubbing = phone + snubbing 📱📱

- Keeping your phone in your hand while talking face to face with someone

- Glancing at your phone during a conversation

- Checking your phone at the table when having a meal or coffee

We have all done it at some point, but just because we all do it, does it have to be acceptable? ... and what impact does it have on us, on others, on our relationships?

No doubt there will be ample temptations to check notifications from the news and our social media life during the next couple of weeks while being in the human / physical presence of our loved ones.

*** My dare to you this weekend ***

( and perhaps the rest of the month … )

I invite you to be mindful of your possible ‘phubbing’ habits.

Disconnect from your tech and connect with someone for a chat, a mindful conversation, a meal, a whole day …

The less you phub the more you will notice phubbing around you!

With kindness and humour let’s be attentive to our habits and transform them gently, one at a time!

Wishing you a happy, merry and present Christmas!

I'd love to hear how you got on with this #dare, do share your experience in the comment section!
